1955 DOUBLED DIE OBVERSE  LINCOLN CENT NGC MS62 BN CAC  1824237-005   One of the key dates in the Lincoln Cent series, the 1955 DDO is certainly the most famous and popular of all doubled die Lincolns and most coin collectors and dealers consider it the most famous and popular doubled die in all of numismatics.  The demand for the coin comes from all segments of the rare coin community, not just Lincoln Cent collectors thereby putting great demand on the limited supply of coins available.  Die doubling is not an extremely rare occurance during the coin minting process but most doubling is relatively minor and often requires magnification to observe.  This is not the case with the 1955 DDO Lincoln Cent.  The date on the coin, the word "LIBERTY", and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" all have such dramatic doubling it can be easily seen with the naked eye, which is one of the main reasons the coin is so popular. Attesting to the importance of this coin, the 1955 DDO Lincoln Cent is ranked Number 57 among our nation's greatest 100 coins. PCGS has published a chart tracking the value of a 1955 DDO Lincoln, in grade XF40, from 1970 to 2009.  In 1970 the coin had a value of $172 and by 2009 the value had increased to $1,800. Unlike most 1955 DDO Lincolns, the offered example has been approved by CAC.  This rare, popular, important coin would make a fine addition to any collection.
